360 RIGHT Circle Turn – While heeling, the dog and handler make a tight 360° turn to the right.
This sign is performed as a tight circle, with the dog staying by the Handler’s left side in Heel position. The circle is to be performed near the sign, but NOT around the sign. Be sure to notice which way the circle turns! If you do the circle in the wrong direction, that is 10 points off for an Incorrect Performance!
AKC Rally® Basic Signs Training origin: circles have long been used to start to teach the dog the Figure 8, which is a traditional
exercise. Like the turns – but more so! – when making a circle the dog must speed up when going to the Right.
Instructions. As the team is moving forward with dog in heel position to the left of the exercise sign, the handler and dog begin a 360° turn to the right to form a compete circle that at the end of the turn results in the team moving forward in the same (original) direction. Because the team will continue moving in the original direction after performing the 360° turn, the exercise is performed to the left of the exercise sign. Always randomly add games in different sections of the turn. This will help your dog’s focus as well as enjoyment in training.
In performing the circle, while the handler need not turn in -place, I do teach this as a tight circle to maintain criteria throughout all my turns etc. When teaching and training ALWAYS do a few repetitions of OWF & DIG during your training sessions AND always add lots of games and rewards to keep DESIRE and FOCUS.
Scoring – The scoring for this exercise is the same as outlined under Exercise 7 (Right Turn), Exercise 9 (About Turn) and Exercise 11 (270° Right Turn), except that the turns are to be performed to the left counter -clockwise).
