Teaching #4 Sign – Halt, Sit, Down, Forward
While heeling, THE HANDLER HALTS AND THE DOG SITS in heel position. The dog must then DOWN on handlers command and in heel position. Make sure the dog is down before moving forward. (Principal parts are in ALL CAPS.)
Skills your dog needs to know for this SIGN:
- Straight line heeling.
- Halt footwork cue and auto sit. (While Rally Rules allows the handler to give a “sit” command, your performance will be quicker and cleaner if your dog has a reliable “sit” when you stop.
